If you are planning to buy a new home, the Consumer Code for Home Builders is designed to support you and make the home buying process fair and transparent.
The Code is designed to help you understand what levels of service to expect from your Home Builder, feel fully informed about your purchase and know your consumer rights before and after you move in. In the unlikely event that problems arise, a speedy, free dispute resolution scheme is available to deal with complaints about breaches of the Code.
The Code contains requirements that all home builders who register homes with the UK’s main new Home Warranty Bodies must comply with.
The purpose of the code is to ensure that home buyers :
- Are treated fairly
- Know what service levels to expect
- Are given reliable information upon which to make their decisions
- Know how to access speedy dispute-resolution arrangements if they are dissatisfied.
Where a Home Builder is found to be in serious breach of the code, home warranty bodies can apply for a range of sanctions, including removal from the relevant Home Warranty Body’s register and exclusion from the registers run by other Home Warranty Bodies who participate in the Code scheme.
